On Thursday the 26th of November 2009, the Project Management Congress will take place at the Amphitheater of OTE (National Greek Telecommunications Organisation) Academy in Athens, Greece. The main topic of the conference will be: 'In search of excellence: The advantage of the Project Management Office (PMO)'.
The valuable contribution of Dr. Kuipers to the Project Management Congress is:
“IT projects are usually managed on deadlines. A certain milestone needs to be reached at a certain date. The quality of IT projects is managed through testing at the end. Once a milestone is reached, a group of testers makes sure the controlling quality is sufficient.
During the course of a project, quality is usually not formally controlled. The Software Improvement Group (SIG) has developed a method to be used by Project Managers to continuously and automatically control the quality of an ongoing project, even if the software that is being developed is not yet operational.
This method has been implemented successfully on a large number of multi-million Euro projects, both in Europe and elsewhere. It has also been used in order to leverage PMO activities in a large Dutch public organization, where it helped Project Managers assessing the technical quality of a portfolio of 150 systems.
What is more, using this method, the quality of the software system can also be certified. SIG cooperates with the German certification institute TÜV to certify the quality. Clients currently using this method include the Dutch, German and Swiss governments, and various multinational companies, such as DHL, ING and IBM.”
